Lindy Hop 2: Jazzing Up your Lindy Hop

This month, we will continue to build on our Authentic Jazz basics and learn how we can incorporate solo movement into our partner dancing. Expect to add vocabulary to your solo and partner dance repertoire and continue working on dancing to the music!

What will I learn?

Our curriculum consists of two levels: Lindy Hop 1 is our introductory class, and whether you are brand new or have taken a few classes here and there, this is the best place to start. You do not need a partner or experience to join this class; we will rotate partners throughout the class.

Lindy Hop 1 consists of three month-long series, which can be taken in any order. Every month, you can expect to learn/review the basic footwork and connection for Lindy Hop, but each session has a slightly different focus. In this level, expect lots of time focused on mastering and integrating each new movement.

Lindy Hop 2 is our intermediate class, designed to level up your skills after completing all three sessions of Lindy Hop 1. You can expect to broaden your vocabulary of moves while building a deeper understanding of technique, music, and more. In this level, expect to move at a slightly faster pace and get ready to dive deeper into the dance.

See below for a more detailed overview of each level, as well as what we're covering this month!

Lindy Hop 1

Session A

Building Blocks

Building Blocks covers foundational moves like send-outs, pass-bys, and sugar pushes. Don’t know what those are? Not a problem! By the end of the month, you’ll be having fun on the dance floor using these basic movements like Legos to build-a-dance.

Session B

Swing Outs and Circles

Swing Outs and Circles focuses specifically on swing outs and lindy circles. These are two of the most iconic movements in Lindy Hop– they’re so important we gave them their own class.

Session C

Charleston

Charleston introduces the basics of solo and partnered Charleston, one of the parent dances that Lindy Hop evolved from. You can expect to get confident moving your own body, connect to the music in new ways, and learn how to stay on the dance floor even when the music gets fast.
